Screening for Plagiarism Policy
The Editorial Board of Pijar Journal of Business and Management (PJBM) holds firm to the principles of academic integrity and does not tolerate any form of intellectual dishonesty, including plagiarism. We implement a strict and transparent policy to ensure that every published manuscript is an original work that makes a tangible contribution to the literature of business and management.
1. Detection and Threshold To ensure manuscript originality, Pijar Journal of Business and Management (PJBM) uses Turnitin software as the standard for similarity checking.
- Threshold: The maximum allowable similarity index is 20%.
- Initial Action: Manuscripts with a similarity index above 20% will be returned to the author for revision (if the excess is due to technical reasons) or immediately rejected (Desk Reject) if there are indications of severe plagiarism before proceeding to the review stage.
2. Definition of Plagiarism Within our journal's environment, plagiarism is defined as the act of taking another person's ideas, data, or writing (including one's own previously published work) and claiming it as new work without proper attribution or citation. This includes:
- Verbatim: Copying word-for-word without using quotation marks ("...") and without citing the original source.
- Paraphrasing: Changing the sentence structure of others without changing the main idea and without including a reference.
- Self-Plagiarism: Reusing significant parts of one's own published work without clear referencing.
3. Classification of Violations and Sanctions If indications of plagiarism are found, the Editor-in-Chief has full authority to investigate and impose sanctions based on the severity, classified into three main categories:
- Minor: Includes cases with similarity below 20% that are technical (e.g., in the bibliography) or short quotes without intent to steal data/ideas, and lack of quotation marks. Sanction: Warning and Revision, requiring the author to re-paraphrase and correct citations.
- Moderate: Occurs when a large portion of the manuscript has similarity without proper attribution or significant self-plagiarism is found (above 20%). Sanction: Rejection and 1-Year Embargo, prohibiting the author from submitting new manuscripts to this journal for one year.
- Severe: The most serious category covering theft of main ideas, data fabrication, copying a large portion of another's manuscript (duplication), or simultaneous submission (double submission) to another journal. Sanction: Rejection and 5-Year to Permanent Embargo. This embargo applies collectively to all authors listed on the manuscript.
4. Recidivism If an author is found committing plagiarism for the second time in Pijar Journal of Business and Management (PJBM):
- A decision will be made through a special Editorial Board meeting.
- The sanction is a Permanent Ban; the author will be blacklisted and strictly prohibited from submitting manuscripts to this journal forever.
5. Self-Plagiarism and Redundant Publication
- Self-Plagiarism: Authors are allowed to cite their own published work but must provide clear citations.
- Conference Articles (Proceedings): Manuscripts developed from conference proceedings are accepted ONLY IF there is substantial development (minimum 30-50% new content/data), a different title, and citation to the original proceeding.
- Simultaneous Submission: Submitting the same manuscript to PJBM and another journal simultaneously is considered a severe ethical violation. If proven, the manuscript will be withdrawn, and official notification will be sent to the other related journal.
6. Monitoring Mechanism The Managing Editor is responsible for maintaining a database of sanctioned authors. Every new manuscript will be verified against this database. This policy is publicly published on the journal's website and is considered understood and agreed upon by authors at the time of submission.
